Malaysian PM Pushes Islamic Finance at UMT Global Forum

The 6th Global Forum on Islamic Economics, Finance and Banking hosted by the University of Management and Technology (UMT) drew international attention as Anwar Ibrahim addressed participants through a special video message, underscoring the growing global relevance of Islamic finance.

Expressing appreciation to Ibrahim Hasan Murad for the invitation, the Malaysian premier struck a personal tone by referring to him as his “brother,” a gesture reflecting the warmth in ties between Malaysia and Pakistan. His remarks highlighted a broader narrative of cooperation and shared economic aspirations across the Muslim world.

In his address, Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that Islamic finance offers a credible and viable alternative to conventional economic systems, particularly in addressing inequality and promoting ethical financial practices. He noted that the forum serves not merely as an academic exercise but as a platform to develop actionable strategies for implementing Islamic economic principles in real-world financial systems.

The Malaysian leader also paid rich tribute to Khurshid Ahmad, acknowledging his lifelong dedication to advancing Islamic economic thought and welfare-oriented policies for the Muslim Ummah. He described Ahmad as a pioneering figure whose intellectual leadership and practical contributions laid the groundwork for modern Islamic finance, leaving behind a legacy that continues to guide policymakers and scholars.
