Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan highlighted the pivotal role of universities in the social and economic development of South Punjab. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in teaching and research to cultivate top-tier human resources while also contributing to the welfare and prosperity of the local community.
The Governor expressed these views during a meeting with Professor Dr Muhammad Kamran, Vice Chancellor of Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) and MNS University of Engineering and Technology Multan, held at the Governor House in Lahore.
Governor Khan stressed that universities should go beyond academic excellence to address students’ welfare and ensure effective economic management. “Universities are key drivers of growth in their regions. Their impact should extend beyond classrooms and laboratories to uplift the communities around them,” he stated.
During the meeting, Professor Dr Kamran briefed the Governor on the administrative and financial matters of the two universities. He provided updates on ongoing curricular and co-curricular activities, mentioning that the fall semester is progressing smoothly across campuses.
Dr Kamran also highlighted the successful organization of two international conferences at Islamia University of Bahawalpur, which were attended by distinguished national and international delegates.
Acknowledging the accomplishments, Governor Khan commended Islamia University’s improvement in quality rankings and expressed optimism about continued progress in administrative and financial areas. He praised the efforts of both universities in contributing to the academic and community landscape of South Punjab.
The Governor’s remarks underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing higher education and leveraging its potential for regional development.
