A tragic accident involving a college van fire has claimed the lives of two female students, prompting authorities to file attempted murder and anti-terrorism charges against eight individuals, including principals of three private colleges. Police have arrested three people so far, including the van driver.
The incident occurred on July 1st near Ahmedpur Toll Plaza when an LPG cylinder installed in the van ignited, engulfing the vehicle in flames. The van was transporting 19 students from Liaquatpur who were returning after taking their third-year college exams.
One student, Tayyaba Abbas, died at the scene due to severe burns, while 18-year-old Ujala later passed away at the Burn Unit in Multan. A total of ten students were injured in the blaze.
Emergency responders initially moved the injured to THQ Hospital Ahmedpur for first aid. Five students with critical burns were transferred to Bahawalpur’s Victoria Hospital. However, due to the absence of a burn unit there, they were later shifted to Multan’s specialized Burn Unit.
