SAU holds two-day workshop to train farmers

KARACHI: Experts from Sindh and Punjab, in collaboration with Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam and Multan Agricultural University conducted a two-day training workshop at Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam to train Sindh farmers in setting up modern orchard nurseries.

The training workshop trained farmers on the healthy nursery, improved yields, irrigation water and nutritional status.

On this occasion, Dr. Fateh Marri , Vice Chancellor, SAU and Asif Nawaz, Vice Chancellor, Agricultural University, Multan said that mangoes from Sindh and Punjab are being exported all over the world, there is a huge loss of marketing due to unawareness about value chain and post harvest issues, the workshop will be fruitfull for farmers of both provinces to increase their production, awareness of diseases and especially international standards for export.

They said that it is necessary  to provide information to farmers on packaging and subsequent export methods.

Asif Hayat Tipu, an expert from Multan Agricultural University, Dr. Abid Hussain, Dr. Niaz Wahucho of SAU , Tandojam introduced modern mango nursery to the farmers of different districts. Agronomists and farmers of Sindh and Punjab were briefed about the healthy nursery of mangoes in the Department of Horticulture, SAU , Tandojam, as well as their care and different varieties of mangoes. Former Federal Minister for Agriculture Syed Asghar Ali Shah, Former Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Qadir Jaskani, Former Director General Agriculture Engineering Workshop Agha Zafarullah, Dr. Zulfiqar Yousafani, Chairman MH Panhwar Farm Ghulam Sarwar Panhwar and others were also present during the workshop.
