UAJK to host Conference on Economic Potential in AJK

The Kashmir Institute of Economics at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) is set to host a high-profile conference aimed at unlocking the economic potential of the region. Titled “Economy of Azad Jammu and Kashmir: Unlocking the Potential,” the two-day event, organized in collaboration with the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), promises to delve deep into the economic landscape of AJK.

Scheduled for May 9th and 10th, 2024, the conference will take place against the backdrop of the serene King Abdullah Campus, offering a picturesque setting for engaging discussions and strategic deliberations.

The conference, as outlined by the Public Relations Department of UAJK, will encompass a diverse array of subthemes crucial to understanding and addressing the economic challenges and opportunities in AJK. These include Tourism and Development, Skills Development and Education, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, Infrastructure Development, and Economic Reforms and Development.

With an impressive lineup of speakers comprising policymakers, researchers, academicians, representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, media personnel, and students, the conference aims to foster insightful dialogues and propose actionable strategies for economic growth and development in the region.

Professor Dr. Samina Sabir, Director of the Kashmir Institute of Economics, highlighted the significance of the conference in addressing the longstanding infrastructural constraints and governance challenges that have impeded AJK’s economic progress. “Despite the abundant resources and strategic location of AJK, infrastructural constraints and governance challenges have hindered its economic progress,” remarked Prof. Dr. Samina Sabir, Director of the Kashmir Institute of Economics.

Expressing optimism about the conference’s potential impact, Dr. Sabir emphasized the importance of engaging stakeholders from diverse backgrounds in meaningful discussions to unlock AJK’s economic potential.
