HED asks PHEC to propose interview panel for another seven soon-to-fall-vacant VCs’ seats

 

The Punjab government has finally decided to appoint vice chancellors (VC) at three of the seven vacant posts in public universities where a permanent head of the institution was due for appointment. Following a tedious selection process that continued in fits and starts, the powers that be have finalised the names of VCs for University of Okara, University of Sahiwal and Ghazi University, Dera Ghazi Khan.

The Punjab government aims at completing the incomplete and much delayed process of appointment of vice chancellors at seven different public sector universities in the province within the next one month. However, the final decision regarding the appointments will still be taken by the new government and is expected to be delayed until after the upcoming general election 2018.

The oldest seat of learning in the country, Punjab University, will finally get a permanent vice chancellor after Punjab chief minister finalised Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar as the man to lead the university in the months ahead. A formal notification regarding the first permanent PU VC in almost two years is expected today after the approval of Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana, who is also the university’s chancellor.
