A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between the University of Okara (UO) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid and VC Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Prof Dr Bushra Mirza, seeks to build various International Research Consortiums involving leading national and international institutions of higher learning.

These consortiums will be for various disciplines of sciences, social sciences and humanities. Moreover, building academia-industry linkages was also part of the understanding.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony at the LCWU, where the UO Registrar Dr Muhammad Tahir Khan and In-Charge Department of Statistics Dr Maqsood Ahmed were also present, Prof Wajid told, “Prior to this, I have signed pacts with Khawaja Farid University of Engineering & Informational Technology (KFUEIT), Ghazi University (GUDGK), National Skills University (NSU) and University of Mianwali (UMW), more MoUs are around the corner. In this agreement with the LCWU, we have planned to build a consortium that will help us to jointly organize international conferences, initiate faculty and student exchange programs and use one another’s research labs and facilities.”

Dr Bushra regarded the MoU as a major stepping stone towards bringing national and global academic community on a platform where they could share innovative ideas, initiate joint research ventures, take advantage from common expertise and give their teachers and students broader exposure.

According to the MoU, the two universities will also be collaborating in various crucial areas of research including genome editing, genetic studies, biodiversity and food security. Moreover, all other disciplines of sciences and social sciences will also have opportunities to collaborate.
