OKARA: The University of Okara’s Syndicate in its 15th meeting held at the New Ministers’ Block Civil Secretariat Lahore, unanimously approved the third party screening policy for all of the administrative positions.

The body upheld the recommendations of the Search Committee regarding the appointment of Registrar and Controller Examinations and forwarded them to the higher authorities for consideration.

The meeting was chaired by the Minister Higher Education Punjab, Raja Yassir Humayun Sarfraz.

The UO Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar elaborated the university’s stance on ensuring transparency and meritocracy in recruitments. Considering this, the Syndicate allowed the university to hire the services of an independent screening organization for the shortlisting of candidates through written tests.

Keeping in view the needs of the special education sector, the body approved the induction of a faculty member holding a PhD degree for the uplifting of the UO’s Department of Special Education.

The minister hailed the UO administration’s efforts for providing decent higher education opportunities to more than 16,000 students of district Okara and its vicinity.

The VC thanking the Syndicate members vowed to continue his endeavors for the betterment of higher education standards and facilities in the university.

 

The students of the Department of Management Sciences, University of Okara (UO) organized an Entrepreneurship Gala under the supervision of their teachers including Shehzad Aziz, Rai Imtiaz, Abdul Manan and Hafiz Fawad Ali.

A range of innovative business ideas including e-commerce, information technology, hoteling and consultancy services were presented through stalls, models and posters.

The gala started with a grand opening ceremony. The resident officer Dr Shehzad Ahmed inaugurated the event. In his address to the students, he urged them to bring their business ideas to life and start small-scale businesses after passing out in a bid to create employment opportunities for the youth.

Explaining the objective of the gala, Shehzad Aziz said that the students of management sciences had an integral role to play in society as they possessed the skills and knowledge to initiate entrepreneurship and engage students of other disciplines.

Rai Imtiaz acknowledged the efforts of the students in making the gala a mega success and wished them good fortune for their future endeavors. He said that the Department of Management Sciences was aimed at inculcating entrepreneurship skills among the students through practical teaching as per the vision of the vice chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar.

According to the university spokesperson, the Entrepreneurship Gala is held every year in February at the UO. The purpose of this gala was to motivate and encourage the students to exhibit their skills and create employment opportunities for themselves as well as their fellows.

Following the World Economic Forum Report which ranked Pakistan at 151th position among 153 countries on global gender parity index, the Vice Chancellor University of Okara (UO) Professor Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar, while talking to the media, told that the district-based young universities have the potential to reduce gender gap and increase gender participation by providing opportunities of higher education to the women of marginalized sections and rural areas.
