In a landmark decision aimed at bolstering educational opportunities and skill development in Gilgit Baltistan (GB), top national universities under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) have announced plans to establish campuses in the region.

The initiative, revealed during a high-level meeting chaired by the Special Secretary of Federal Education, marks a significant step towards addressing the educational and vocational needs of GB’s populace. These campuses will be set up within existing degree colleges across GB and will offer a range of high-impact IT and other highly employable skill courses.

Among the attendees were notable figures including the Chief Secretary of GB and representatives from leading educational institutions such as the National University of Technology (NuTech), National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) of Engineering Sciences and Technology, National Skills University (NSU), and Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design (PIFD).

Furthermore, in a bid to enhance vocational training opportunities, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between the GB government and the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC). Under this agreement, a substantial amount of 200 Million PKR has been allocated for skill training programs in Gilgit Baltistan over the coming months.

This collaborative effort between the federal government, national universities, and local authorities underscores a concerted commitment to uplift educational standards and equip the youth of Gilgit Baltistan with the necessary skills to thrive in today’s competitive job market.

The decision has been met with widespread acclaim from residents and stakeholders alike, who view it as a significant stride towards bridging the educational divide and unlocking the region’s socio-economic potential.

As preparations for the establishment of these campuses and the rollout of skill training programs gain momentum, anticipation and enthusiasm continue to grow among the people of Gilgit Baltistan, heralding a new era of educational empowerment and economic prosperity for the region.
