The Department of Graphic Design and Postgraduate Research Centre of Creative Arts at Punjab University (PU) organized a seminar titled “Learning from Marketing Blunders – Sady Wal Tak Sajna.” The event was part of a series leading up to the highly anticipated International Conference on Creative Arts (ICCA-24), focusing on the rich 100-year history of Lahore Cinema.

The seminar was attended by faculty members, students, and industry professionals, including Prof Dr Ahmad Bilal, Chairman of the Department of Graphic Design, and Syed Asad Rizvi, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at JazzCash.

In his opening remarks, Prof Dr Ahmad Bilal emphasized the significance of this seminar series as a prelude to ICCA-24, which will celebrate the century-long journey of Lahore Cinema. He noted that cinema, which first emerged in 1924, has played a pivotal role in shaping industries, including advertising, where the earliest commercials were showcased on cinema screens.

Syed Asad Rizvi delivered an insightful presentation on the evolving landscape of modern advertising, highlighting both successes and failures within the industry. He delved into the strategies behind top global brands that have excelled in navigating the complexities of advertising, while also examining critical mistakes that led to the downfall of several prominent brands. His analysis offered valuable lessons for aspiring advertisers, marketers, and business leaders.

Prof Shahnawaz Zaidi, former Principal of the College of Art and Design (PU-CAD), praised the Department of Graphic Design for organizing an exceptional seminar featuring a top industry expert. He congratulated the department on its efforts to bridge the gap between academia and industry, providing students with practical insights into real-world challenges.

The seminar marks another milestone in Punjab University’s commitment to fostering creative excellence and preparing students for the competitive global marketplace. With ICCA-24 on the horizon, the university continues to be a hub for innovative thought and collaboration in the fields of graphic design and creative arts.
