Syrian Govt Delegation Visit HEC to Explore Avenues of Collaboration

A delegation of Syrian government officials, led by Deputy Minister of Education and Educational Affairs Dr. Rami Waheed Al-Dhulli, embarked on a mission to Pakistan to foster educational ties between the two nations. The focal point of their visit was a significant meeting with the senior management of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan at the HEC Secretariat.

During the meeting, both sides delved into a detailed discussion on matters of mutual interest, aiming to identify potential areas for bilateral collaboration in higher education. The Chairman of HEC, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, welcomed the Syrian delegation, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing access, relevance, and quality within its higher education sector. Dr. Ahmed elucidated on the substantial investments made by the Pakistani government over the past two decades, leading to the international recognition of numerous universities. He further disclosed that HEC has awarded approximately 300,000 scholarships, both local and foreign, to Pakistani students, demonstrating a steadfast dedication to human resource development.

Expressing openness to support Syrian higher education institutions, Dr. Ahmed assured the delegation of HEC’s willingness to extend assistance in various areas, including policy formulation, faculty capacity building, skill development initiatives, and Information Technology.

In response, Dr. Rami Waheed Al-Dhulli conveyed his gratitude to HEC for their generous offer of support and expressed Syria’s keen interest in fostering bilateral academic and research relations. He highlighted potential collaboration areas such as professional education, IT, entrepreneurship, technology, and modern teaching methodologies.

Ambassador of Syria to Pakistan, Dr. Ramez Alraee, emphasized the historical ties between the two countries, extending beyond political interests. He stressed the importance of joint efforts in building economic, educational, and cultural bonds for the mutual benefit of both nations.

The Syrian delegation is scheduled to visit various universities across Pakistan to familiarize themselves with the education sector and explore opportunities for collaboration. Their objectives include enhancing virtual learning, teaching mechanisms, scientific skills, proficiency in Information and Technology, technology-based educational projects, and bilateral scientific and cultural cooperation.

The Syrian dignitaries, including officials from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Education, were joined by representatives from Pakistan’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Federal Education and Professional Training. The meeting showcased a strong commitment from both sides to strengthen educational ties for the advancement of academia and research.
