UAJK Gets Direct Access to National Archives with Dedicated Desk

The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) and the National Archives of Pakistan (NAP) Cabinet Division, Islamabad, have sealed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signaling a transformative partnership aimed at both enriching educational opportunities and safeguarding Pakistan’s vibrant cultural legacy.

In a move poised to reshape academic landscapes, the agreement paves the way for the establishment of a dedicated Front Desk of the NAP within UAJK’s premises, serving as a nucleus for students, faculty, and researchers. Spearheading this collaborative endeavor, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi and Director General of the National Archives of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Din Chakrani, inked the MoU, laying out a roadmap for synergistic initiatives between the two institutions.

Central to the MoU is UAJK’s commitment to extend technical support for the creation of an archival lab and archives on its campus. In reciprocation, NAP will provide UAJK access to a trove of rare historical documents for display and aid in the preservation of the university’s archival treasures.

The formal signing ceremony unfolded during a visit by a distinguished three-member delegation from NAP, led by Director General Mr. Muhammad Din Chakrani. Engaging in fruitful deliberations with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, the delegation shed light on the envisioned objectives and services of the proposed Front Desk.

Expressing gratitude for NAP’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding Pakistan’s heritage, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi underscored the profound implications of this collaboration for the academic community. He reiterated UAJK’s commitment to facilitating NAP’s initiatives and providing requisite infrastructure for the establishment of the Front Desk.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi emphasized the wealth of knowledge embedded within NAP archives, particularly beneficial for students delving into social sciences, stressing the pivotal role of primary research in scholarly pursuits.

The signing ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed members of the UAJK faculty and administration, including Meritorious Prof. Dr. Ghulam Murtaza, Registrar, Meritorious Prof. Dr. Syed Nadeem Haider Bukhari, Chief Librarian, Prof. Dr. Abdul Qadir, Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Syeda Siddiqa Firdous, and Public Relations Officer Mubashar Naqvi.

This collaborative initiative signifies a significant stride in augmenting educational landscapes and safeguarding Pakistan’s cultural heritage for posterity. As custodians of the nation’s historical narrative, the National Archives of Pakistan remains steadfast in nurturing partnerships that foster scholarly inquiry and public involvement.
