The University of Home Economics (UHE) made history by welcoming the US Consul General for the first time during the ‘1st Her Startup Showcase’ held at the Zubaida Business Incubation Center. The event, a major milestone for the university, also featured onsite training for the Tabeer Project, a collaboration with the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), funded by the US State Department.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Faleeha Zahra warmly greeted the US Consul General and other distinguished guests, reaffirming UHE’s commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in academia. She emphasized the importance of such initiatives in empowering students, particularly women, in entrepreneurial ventures.

Dr Wahab, Director of the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC), presented the strategic plan for the Zubaida Business Incubation Center, highlighting the university’s collaborative efforts with stakeholders, including LUMS and the US State Department. A documentary showcasing UHE’s growth and achievements in education, research, and business was also presented to the audience.

The Consul General, joined by Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Shehryar Shahid from LUMS, toured the exhibits at the Zubaida Business Incubation Center, where students from UHE’s Fashion and Textile, Food and Nutrition, and Computer Science departments showcased their projects. From innovative fashion designs to nutritional products and tech-driven solutions, the students’ work impressed all attendees.

Commending the students’ creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, the US Consul General expressed enthusiasm for further collaboration with UHE, recognizing the university’s strides in academic excellence and business development. “UHE is clearly playing a key role in shaping the future of innovation in Pakistan,” said the Consul General.

The event concluded with a distribution of souvenirs and a group photo, marking a successful and memorable day for all involved. Faculty, students, heads of departments, and administration joined in the celebration, reflecting on the university’s progress and future endeavors.
