HEC Launches Scholarship Program to Train Afghan Leaders

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has launched the 3rd phase of the Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships Program for Afghan Nationals. This program will award scholarships to Afghan students to study in top-ranked Pakistani universities.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) Madad Ali Sindhi at a graduation ceremony for Afghan students who have completed their studies under Phase-II of the program. These students have graduated from various disciplines including Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Management, and Computer Science.

Addressing the Afghan students, the Minister emphasized the importance of their role in Afghanistan’s development. He urged them to identify the challenges facing their country and utilize their intellectual capabilities to seek solutions. He also acknowledged the crucial role of HEC in providing higher education opportunities for Afghan students in Pakistan.

In his welcome address, Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed congratulated the students on their achievements and commended them for their hard work and dedication. He also emphasized the close ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan and the responsibility that Pakistan bears in supporting and aiding its neighbor.

Dr Ahmed urged the students to see themselves as Pakistani ambassadors and catalysts for their home country’s development and prosperity. He also highlighted the importance of networking in career development and encouraged the students to harness their potential.

Speaking on the occasion, Special Representative on Afghanistan (SRA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Asif Durrani reflected on the significant impact of the program, where many Afghan alumni who pursued higher education opportunities in Pakistan are now actively contributing to various sectors in Afghanistan.

He expressed hope that the return of the Afghan graduates to their home country would enable them to serve their nation effectively and take on diverse responsibilities.

Mr Durrani also stressed the importance of an educated society in facilitating societal development and concluded by emphasizing the symbiotic relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan, underscoring the cherished bond that exists between the two countries and the positive impact it will have on their shared future.
