IBA Karachi Hosts Seminar on Mediation

Karachi’s Institute of Business Administration (IBA), through its Center for Executive Education (CEE), hosted a seminal event titled ‘The Mediator’s Magic: Transforming Conflict into Collaboration’. Held at the IBA City Campus, the gathering attracted a distinguished audience from the realms of judiciary, corporate sector, academia, and international institutions.

The core focus of the seminar was the transformative potential of mediation in resolving conflicts and nurturing collaborations across diverse contexts. Esteemed speakers and panelists from various sectors shared their wisdom and experiences, shedding light on the pivotal role mediation plays in today’s global landscape.

Kamran Bilgrami, Director of IBA-CEE, kicked off the event with a warm welcome, followed by an opening address from Justice (R) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, former Chief Justice of Pakistan, who set the tone for the discussions ahead.

Dr. Ishrat Husain, Professor Emeritus at IBA, delivered the keynote speech, elaborating on ‘The Power of Mediation in Conflict Resolution,’ underlining the importance of mediation as a mechanism for sustainable conflict resolution.

Special addresses by Zmarak Khan, Chief Legal Counsel at CLDP, and Siddharth Jha, Counsel at SIMC, delved into ‘US Government Support and International Mediation Landscape, and Prospects for Pakistan,’ offering valuable insights into the global mediation arena and its potential implications for Pakistan.

The seminar also dedicated a segment to discussing ‘Mediation in Pakistan – Future Prospects,’ with esteemed judges sharing their perspectives. A panel discussion, moderated by SIMI Qualified Mediator Syed Bulent Sohail, explored ‘The Landscape of Mediation,’ providing a platform for in-depth discourse on the subject.

In his closing remarks, Justice Junaid Ghaffar stressed the importance of nurturing mediation skills for the betterment of society, highlighting its role in fostering peace and harmony. Muhammad Sohail, CEO of Topline Securities, expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks.

The event concluded with a networking reception, allowing participants to further engage and exchange ideas, fostering potential collaborations and partnerships in the field of mediation.

The seminar served as a significant milestone in promoting the understanding and adoption of mediation as a potent tool for conflict resolution and collaboration-building, paving the way for a more harmonious and cooperative society.
