Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, presided over a pivotal meeting today with officials from the Ministry of Federal Education. The gathering zeroed in on a spectrum of programs and projects designed to propel Pakistan’s education sector forward.

Expressing grave concern over the staggering number of out-of-school children in Pakistan, Minister Siddiqui announced his intention to propose to the Prime Minister and the Federal Cabinet the declaration of a national education emergency. This bold move seeks to reintegrate these marginalized children into the educational fold, leaving no one behind in the pursuit of knowledge.

In a bid to bolster the nation’s workforce for the digital age, Minister Siddiqui urged swift action in formulating a strategy akin to wartime urgency. The goal: to train one million individuals in technology and IT-related skills. This ambitious initiative, backed by the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), aims to equip Pakistan’s workforce with the requisite competencies to navigate the swiftly evolving technological landscape.

Complementing efforts to address the educational needs of children, Minister Siddiqui unveiled plans for a School Meals Program to be rolled out across all Islamabad Government Primary Schools. Beyond ensuring proper nutrition, this program underscores the government’s commitment to nurturing the holistic well-being of students, promoting their health and hygiene.

Dr. Khalid underscored the government’s steadfast dedication to enhancing access to quality education for all, particularly underscoring the importance of prioritizing girls’ education to bridge the gender literacy gap. Recognizing this as paramount to national development, he announced plans for a National Conference in collaboration with Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). This conference will confront the issue of out-of-school children and combat learning poverty by harnessing the transformative potential of technology.

In closing, Minister Siddiqui reaffirmed the government’s unwavering resolve to overhaul Pakistan’s education sector. Through the implementation of comprehensive strategies and robust collaboration with stakeholders, the Ministry aims to chart a brighter future for the nation’s youth, laying the foundation for a prosperous tomorrow.
