PU Confucius Institute Honors Top Students in Chinese Proficiency

Punjab University (PU) Lahore’s Confucius Institute recently hosted a prestigious ceremony to honor students who excelled in Chinese language proficiency examinations and welcomed new learners into its fold. The event, which also included the distribution of MINISO scholarships and CIPU certificates, was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including PU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, and Host Director of PU Confucius Institute, Prof Dr Shafique-Ur-Rehman.

The ceremony, held at Punjab University, marked a significant milestone in the promotion of Chinese language and cultural exchange between Pakistan and China. Mr. Li Dong, Vice President of MINISO Company in Pakistan, and Miss He-yubing, Vice President of Lahore Overseas Chinese Association, joined the distinguished gathering alongside enthusiastic students eager to delve deeper into the linguistic and cultural richness of China.

In his address, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood underscored the profound friendship between Pakistan and China, emphasizing the pivotal role of language promotion in fostering stronger bilateral relations. He stressed the importance of mutual efforts to promote not only the Chinese language but also Urdu, further enhancing cultural understanding between the two nations.

Prof Dr Shafiq ur Rehman, Host Director of PU Confucius Institute, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the students who demonstrated exemplary proficiency in Chinese language studies. He encouraged them to persist in their endeavors, highlighting the enduring significance of linguistic skills in bridging cultural gaps and facilitating meaningful dialogue between nations.

Chinese Director of Confucius Institute, Prof Cai Jinbao, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the enduring bonds between China and Pakistan and the crucial role language plays in nurturing these ties. He urged students to embrace the opportunity to learn Chinese, citing its importance in unlocking new avenues of communication and cooperation.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of MINISO scholarships to 30 deserving students, recognizing their dedication and excellence in Chinese language studies. These scholarships not only serve as a token of appreciation but also as a catalyst for further academic pursuit and cultural exchange.
