The provincial school education department (SED) Punjab has announced the conclusion of the extended winter schedule for schools, with regular operating hours set to resume from February 1, 2024.

The winter schedule, which was in effect until January 31, 2024, impacted both public and private schools across the province. During this period, schools operated from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm on weekdays, and on Fridays, the schedule was adjusted to run from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Prior to this extension, the education department had modified the school timings specifically for Lahore. Boys’ schools in the provincial capital were open from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday to Thursday and Saturday, with Fridays concluding at 12:15 pm. Meanwhile, girls’ schools in Lahore followed a schedule of 8:15 am to 2:15 pm Monday to Thursday and Saturday, with Fridays ending at 12:00 pm.

In light of upcoming events, there are speculations circulating on social media about the closure of educational institutions nationwide for more than a week due to the General Election scheduled for February 8. Unconfirmed reports suggest that schools might close on February 4 for Sunday and February 5 for Kashmir Day. Furthermore, they might remain closed from February 6 to 10 during the election period, concluding with another closure on Sunday, February 11. It is anticipated that schools will reopen on February 12. However, these closures have not been officially confirmed by the relevant authorities.

As the situation evolves, parents, students, and educational staff are advised to stay informed through official channels for any updates on potential school closures related to the General Election.
