LCWU Conference Explores Trends in South Asian Politics

The Political Science Department of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) recently organized a two-day international conference, focusing on ‘Contemporary Trends in South Asian Politics.’ The prestigious event was chaired by the acting Vice Chancellor of LCWU, Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz, and co-chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal.

The inauguration ceremony, held on January 30, 2024, marked the beginning of an intellectually stimulating forum aimed at enhancing the knowledge and understanding of students and research scholars. Esteemed personalities in the field of political science and international relations graced the occasion, with keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Hasan Askari Rizvi leading the discussions.

Distinguished guests, including Prof. Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt (Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, UCP Lahore), Prof. Dr. Irum Khalid (Chairperson Department of Political Science, Punjab University), and renowned journalist, analyst, and columnist Mujeeb-ur-Rahman Shami, shared their valuable insights. The overarching theme of the conference was to engage the academic community in discussions that promote peace, prosperity, and sustainability in the South Asian region.

The international aspect of the conference was further enriched by the virtual participation of foreign experts. Dr. Joanna Wawrzyniak from Warsaw University, Poland, and Dr. Christina Horvath from Bath University, England, contributed to the discourse, extending the prestige of the event beyond borders.

Scholars from renowned international institutions, including Heidelberg University in Germany and the University of Ghent in Belgium, shared their inspiring research findings. The conference also witnessed the active involvement of scholars from local institutions such as Government College University (GCU), Punjab University (PU), Kinnaird College, Leads University, Virtual University, and Forman Christian College University (FCCU).

The diverse range of perspectives presented by respected session chairs and paper presenters added vitality to the conference. The collaborative effort of participants from academia, both local and international, fostered an environment conducive to the exchange of ideas and the promotion of scholarly endeavors.

The event concluded with a sense of accomplishment, leaving participants and attendees with a deeper understanding of the contemporary political landscape in South Asia.
