Pakistan has made its seven universities a part of the list of top universities across the world in 2022. According to a recent report, the list produced by the QS Subject Rankings, the list of the best world universities, seven Pakistani universities rank among the top 500 in different subject areas.   

The names of these world-famous universities are NUST, COMSATS, Punjab University, LUMS, Quaid-i-Azam University, Aga Khan, and UET. All of these are the institutes where most of the students of Pakistan want to secure admission. Almost every university has tens of thousands of students studying at a time.

QS world ranking report lists the universities on the basis of five criteria. These are academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations per paper, h-index (quality and the impact of research), and international research network. All of these are checked through authentic surveys and bodies that give their judgment after considerable research of the institutes.

The universities have ranked among multiple subject areas that include natural sciences, engineering and technology, social sciences and management, life sciences and medicine, and arts and humanities. 

In the list of the natural sciences, there are four Pakistani universities. On the top, there is Quaid-i-Azam University which is the 213th number on the list. Following that there is COMSATS University Islamabad (number 351st on the list), NUST Islamabad (387th on the list), and then, there is Punjab University which ranks between 401 to 450 on the list. 

In the area of engineering and technology, there are six Pakistani universities. NUST Islamabad holds the top position in Pakistan and 179th in the world ranking. Then there are COMSATS University Islamabad (250th in ranking), UET Lahore (324th in ranking), Quaid-i-Azam University (339th in ranking), LUMS (ranks between 401-450), and Punjab University (ranks between 451-500).

The third category is social sciences and management degrees and Pakistan has five universities ranking on this list. LUMS holds the top position in Pakistan and 285th in QS world ranking in this subject area. NUST and Quaid-i-Azam follow the lead and rank between 401 to 450 on the list. Following them are COMSATS University Islamabad and Punjab University which rank between the top 451 to 500 universities.

Life sciences and medicine is the next area and Pakistan has Aga Khan University ranking 349th on the QS world ranking list. The last area of the subject is arts and humanities and only LUMS could take a place among 401 to 500 top universities.
