AIMS holds its first convocation

In the first ever convocation of the Awaz Institute of Media and Management Science (AIMS), 59 students were conferred degrees on Sunday. The Aims is affiliated with the University of Karachi (KU) and since its foundation in January 2011, more than 570 students have completed degrees in BS Mass Communication, Bachelors of Business Administration, BS Software Engineering and BS Computer Science, BD-GD—B Design—Graphic Design and BD-D&MA—B Design—Design and Media Arts/Film in morning and evening programs.

The convocation ceremony was held at a local banquet where students along with their parents participated while Senator Nisar Ahmed Khuhro was the chief guest and the Vice-Chancellor University of Karachi Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and others also attended the ceremony.

On this occasion, Senator Nisar Ahmed Khuhro while addressing said that we should have set targets in our mind to go into a right direction otherwise we cannot success in the life. “Our youngsters and mainly students are our assets as they have to lead the development of Pakistan in future.”

He mentioned that since 2001, we have focused on improving the quality of education particularly the higher education sector and also welcomed the private sector who came forward and join the hands of the government in providing quality education.

He said that small cities and districts also need attention of private sector as they do not have universities and it is difficult for them to get quality education. He added that most of the time, people of small towns and districts have to leave their hometown to receive education in other cities.

He said that industrialists should be invited in the convocation ceremonies so that they could also conduct interviews of the fresh graduates and offer employment opportunities to the highly talented youngsters. He believes it would help the local industry as they would get the right candidate for the position and our youngsters would prove themselves worthy of the job.

Senator Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that we can bring positive changes in society by providing quality education and giving equal chance to everyone and by promoting merit culture.

Meanwhile, the KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi said that he believes that Aims graduates have skills and abilities required to excel in the competitive corporate world. The Institute, which was started with only one program, has done a remarkable job during all these years and is moving in the right direction.

He believes that the graduates are now prepared to serve society by applying their knowledge and skills acquired during their studies. The competition is getting more challenging and one has to be able to produce the best result by applying one’s skills with discipline. He hoped that with the stability in political scenario in the country many new opportunities will emerge and open new doors for our youngsters.

The KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi said that youngsters should focus on entrepreneurship opportunity rather than looking and public and private sectors for jobs. He advised students that while displaying your visionary and well-educated attitude towards life, you need to identify your role in the progress of the country and try playing it as effectively as possible.

“Our beloved homeland needs our devotion and immense support. Development is an ongoing process which can never be brought to a halt. Today, we are struggling to attain a plausible position among the successful nations of the world. I have complete faith in the youth of this country that can lead this country towards the path of success.”

Earlier, the Rector Aims Professor Dr Saleem Shahzad while congratulating the students and parents on the imperative occasion, said that he believes that training at Aims has enabled the students to complete well in the corporate world.

“I am sure that these students will utilize all their capabilities to prove themselves as an important asset for organizations they will work for.”

Later, appreciation shields were distributed among the graduating students and degrees were also conferred in-absentia.

Rector AIIMS Dr Saleem Shahzad congratulated Shaikh-ul-Jamia Karachi Professor Khalid al-Iraqi, Senator Nisar Khoro, Board of Governors, Faculty members, teachers, students and alumni. He said that AIIMS has been providing these services in the field of education for 12 years. In 2010, AIIMS began its academic journey with the Department of Mass Communication and has since gradually launched a four-year BS Design Film, BS Design Graphics program in Visual Studies in Computer Science, Soft Engineering. We strive to provide the best education and training for our students.

Charter Inspection and Evaluation (Sindh CIEC) Nauman Ahsan, Dean Faculty of Arts Dr. Nusrat Idris, Barrister Halar Wasan, Executive Director Ziauddin Board Dr. Nasir Ansar, University of Karachi Department of Computer Science and Software Engineer Nadeem Mahmood, Head of the Department B BA Dr Danish, Tania Nasir in-charge of Visual Studies, Dr Fauzia Naz, Dean of Mass Communication Department were given honorary shield.
