PU holds Seminar on Pakistan-Netherlands Cultural Coherence

The University of Punjab (PU) Department of Graphic Design recently hosted an enlightening international seminar focusing on the cultural coherence between Pakistan and the Netherlands. The event, organized with the collaboration of the Netherlands Embassy and the Government of Pakistan, brought together a diverse array of artists, scholars, and students to explore the intersections of art, music and design.

The seminar, held at Punjab University, was attended by distinguished guests including PU Registrar Dr. Ahmad Islam, Chairman of the Department of Graphic Design Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bilal, Director of Student Affairs Muhammad Ali Klasra, along with faculty members and a large cohort of enthusiastic students.

In his opening address, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bilal expressed gratitude to both the Netherlands Embassy and the Government of Pakistan for facilitating this invaluable opportunity for the Graphic Design Department. He also extended thanks to the university administration, including the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of Arts and Humanities, and the Principal of the College of Art and Design, for their unwavering support.

“Music is the prime art form and the backbone of Design and Creative Industries,” remarked Prof. Dr. Bilal, emphasizing the profound influence of music on the field of design. He underscored the significance of lifelong dedication to practice and research in the domain.

Dr. Ahmad Islam, in his remarks, extended a warm welcome to all the participating artists from the Netherlands and Pakistan, expressing appreciation for their collaboration and support.

The seminar featured performances by renowned artists from both countries, including Eva Aukes, a guitarist, and Anastasia, a violinist from the Netherlands, alongside Pakistani artists Wajih Nizami, a sitarist, and Irfan Khan, a tabla player. The artists presented the national anthems of both nations and provided insights into the cultural nuances embedded within the compositions.

Adding a scholarly perspective to the musical presentations, Prof. Israr Chishti, the Founding Director of Music and Performing Arts at PU College of Art and Design, elucidated various instrument formations, illustrating his explanations with live demonstrations.

The seminar served as a platform for cultural exchange and dialogue, fostering greater understanding and appreciation between Pakistan and the Netherlands. Participants left the event enriched with new perspectives and inspired by the shared artistic heritage of the two nations.
