VC chairs 27th meeting of the JSMU syndicate

The 27th meeting of the syndicate of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) was held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon.

The agenda presented by the Registrar, Dr Azam Khan, was approved unanimously. The proposal of the upgradation of 18 data entry operators to computer operators was deferred by the members. The remuneration of Distinguished National Professor for the Meritorious Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Afridi as per new HEC guidelines and his posting at JSMU was still under discussion, and the members asked the Registrar to define a policy regarding his proposed responsibilities and duties in JSMU. Permission for starting the admission process of MBBS and BDS in the province of Sindh was unanimously approved. Permission was also granted for placing the advertisement for recruitment in administration and pre-clinical faculties at JSMU, but for the posts of clinical faculty, a committee has been formed to review the issues.

The MoU between JSMU and AKUH for one-year training program in subspecialty of gynae and obs was unanimously approved. Budget estimation for the fiscal year 2023-2024 presented by the Director Finance Adil Rasheed was also unanimously approved.

The sale and renting out of the software and other IT-related services and material solely made by JSMU was also approved. The meeting was told that the JSMU IT department has developed highly efficient softwares and material that are being successfully used within JSMU. These include online testing software, indigenous biometric machine, payroll software, and staff and students biometric attendance softwares.

“The Syndicate meeting was productive and all the important decisions were taken unanimously. We are committed to providing quality education to our students and ensuring that our university is at the forefront of medical education in Pakistan,” said Vice Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon.

Secretary Boards and Universities, Muhammad Mureed Rahimoon attended the session virtually. Prof Dr. A Q Mughal, Prof Dr. Noshad Ahmad Shaikh, Prof Dr. Shaista Effendi, Prof Dr. Zeenat Essani, Prof Dr. Rubina Hussain, Additional Secretary health Liaquat Ali Bhatti and others were present at the meeting.
