Iqra University (IU) in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) organized the All Pakistan HEC Intervarsity Swimming Men Championship 2022-23 at the Iqra University EDC Campus Karachi.

The inauguration ceremony of the three-day Swimming championship (from 8th to 10th November) took place at Iqra University EDC Campus Karachi on 8th November 2022. His Excellency Dr Bandah Ali Laghari (Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh) graced the inauguration ceremony as the Chief Guest.

The Championship hosted more than 100 young swimmers from 14 Universities across Pakistan were Iqra University, University of Central Punjab (UCP), Punjab University (PU), University of Lahore (UoL), Lahore Garrison University (LGU), Government College University Lahore (GCU), University of Okara (UoO), Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS), Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, Bahria University, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Dewan University (SBBDU), Superior University and University of Management & Technology, Lahore (UMT).

Engr Dr Kamran Raza (Dean Faculty of Engineering Science & Technology/ Director Sports Iqra University) conducted the Welcome speech and thanked His Excellency Dr Bandah Ali Laghari (Special Assistant to CM Sindh) for gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest, Engr Javed Ali Memon (Director In-charge Higher Education Commission) as the Guest of Honor, distinguished Guests for joining the event, contestants for taking part in the Championship, Media for supporting the event and the whole team of Iqra University for putting together a great sporting event. He shared his pride in being a part of Iqra University producing the best resource for Pakistan and assured to uplift the standards even more. Sharing the Championship details, Engr Dr Kamran Raza motivated the contestants to exhibit the best show.

His Excellency Dr Bandah Ali Laghari (Special Assistant to CM Sindh) expressed his happiness to inaugurate the ceremony and thanked Iqra University for inviting him to do the Honors. He encouraged youngsters to show their best skills in all fields and promised Sindh Government’s support at all levels. Dr Laghari acknowledged the efforts of Iqra University for leading the race in every field including sports, as strong sport persons make a strong nation. He shared the steps taken by the Sindh Government to develop sports in the region especially for youngsters at the College and University level, as the best sportsmen are developed from the grass root level. Dr Laghari also admired the sports facilities provided by Iqra University to its faculty, staff and students.

Engr Javed Ali Memon (Director In-charge Higher Education Commission) thanked Iqra University for collaboration on the Swimming Championship, thanked Dr Laghari for honoring the Inauguration ceremony and vowed to continue this effort in future also. He expressed his joy in being a part of the Swimming Championship and pledged to offer HEC’s continuous support to Iqra University. Engr Memon encouraged the Championship swimmers to give their best to win the title. He also shared the HEC’s policies in nurturing the sporting culture in youth.

Prof Dr Wasim Qazi (Vice Chancellor/ President Iqra University) welcomed Dr Bandah Ali Laghari as the Chief Guest, Engr Javed Ali Memon as the Guest of Honor, the dignitaries for joining the ceremony, thanked contestants from all the Universities to fight for the Championship title and admired the efforts of the Sports team of Iqra University. Dr Qazi acknowledged the steps taken by the Sindh Government in developing education and fostering the sporting culture in the region. Dr Qazi discussed the efforts undertaken by Iqra University for development of sports in the University.

Shield and Bouquet were presented to His Excellency Dr Bandah Ali Laghari by Prof Dr Wasim Qazi (VC/ President Iqra University), Engr Dr Kamran Raza (Head of Sports Iqra University) and Prof Dr Shiraz Mohani (Director Sports Iqra University). The ceremony ended with a group photo session with the Guests.

Afterwards, the All Pakistan HEC Intervarsity Men Swimming Championship 2022-23 began with the categories such as Free style: 50, 100, 200, 400 and 1,500, Back stroke: 50, 100 and 200, Breast stroke: 50, 100 and 200, Butterfly: 50, 100 and 200, Individual medley: 200 and 400, Rallies: 4X100 meter Free style, 4X200 meter Freestyle, 4X100 meter medley.
