Pakistani students in China who have contracted coronavirus being provided with the best medical treatment, Special Assistant on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza said on Wednesday.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad , Mirza confirmed reports  that coronavirus had been confirmed in four Pakistani students currently  in China, adding that  our embassy in China was  in constant touch with these students.

The Special Assistant said the health of these four students is improving and they would soon recover.

Dr Zafar Mirza said that about thirty thousand Pakistanis were  living in China and being a responsible government, it was our responsibility to take care of their health.

The Special Assistant appreciated the steps taken by the Chinese government to contain the Coronavirus. He said steps such as stopping the exit and entry of people from Wuhan area and screening of their people at airports had been applauded by the entire world community.

Dr Zafar Mirza said our government had also taken a series of precautionary measures as per the guidelines of the World Health Organization to stay safe from this virus.

He said an emergency operation center had been established in the ministry of health. In addition an emergency core committee had also been constituted which meets daily to monitor the whole situation.

The Special Assistant said that a helpline would soon be made operational at the national level in order to keep the people updated about the Coronavirus.
