VU celebrates Independence Day with full zeal

Virtual University (VU) celebrated the 75th Independence Day of Pakistan with full zeal and zest through Plantation and Cleanliness Drive across Pakistan. In a grand ceremony at VU, KSK Campus Rector Prof Dr Arshad Saleem Bhatti hoisted the National Flag and started the celebrations of Independence Day.

Celebrations of independence were done across Pakistan with enthusiasm and the campuses of the Virtual University of Pakistan were decorated with fairy lights on the Diamond Jubilee festivity. A Cleanliness and Plantation Drive was carried out in more than 100 cities of Pakistan by 200 plus campuses of Virtual University to protect the environment.

On this occasion, Dr Arshad Saleem Bhatti planted saplings of a tree to start a massive plantation drive across Pakistan.  Special prayers were done for peace, solidarity and prosperity of the country. Cake Cutting was also done at the ceremony. Dr Arshad Saleem Bhatti in his speech congratulated the students who participated in the Independence Day competitions and won the prizes. He mentioned that our forefathers rendered countless sacrifices for the sake of dear motherland. He highlighted the great efforts of the Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for making Pakistan a reality. The future of the country belongs to the youth of the county. Faculty of the educational institutes play a major role in building a nation. Faculty along with the student community of Virtual University should work hard and play their part in the progress and prosperity of the county, Dr Arshad added.

Along with worthy Rector, senior officials, Faculty members, VU’s administration and more than 100 students participated in the ceremony at VU Kala Shah Kaku Campus.  A nationwide campaign titled ‘Cleanliness and Plantation Drive” was organized by Virtual University of Pakistan. An estimated 50,000 saplings were planted by the staff and students of Virtual University of Pakistan through over 200 VU campuses in more than 100 cities across Pakistan including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Badin, Ghotki, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sargodha, Rahim Yar Khan, Jhelum, Abbottabad, Gilgit, Kashmir.

The “Cleanliness and Plantation Drive” was launched by Virtual University and different organizations joined hands in this drive at regional level which includes Forest, Wildlife and Fisheries Department, Chamber of Commerce & Industries and Municipal Administration.  Different mostly visited public places like parks, roadsides, hospitals and other public sightseeing places were cleaned and saplings were planted.

The purpose of this Cleanliness and Plantation Drive of VU was to give a gift to the country on this golden Jubilee/75th Independence Day of Pakistan so that climate change issues can be addressed. By keeping in mind, the shadow factor quick growth plants were selected for plantation as it will help to cool down the temperature of the earth.

Basic factors which are contributors to climate change are shortage of trees and pollution which will be addressed through these efforts. This campaign made the students conscious about the ecosystem and provided awareness about cleanliness and environmental protection.

The campaign resulted in planting a huge number of saplings which will grow into big trees and will not only enhance the beauty but will also purify the air. Now this is the responsibility of the upcoming generation to keep this activity alive to make Pakistan Clean and Eco Friendly.
